Valentine’s Day! An overly commercialized holiday that also has a huge negative impact on the environment. From the wrapping paper to the cards, to the flowers, to the shipping/transport that happens during this period. It all is not necessary as you can choose to show your love in an eco –friendly way.
We can enjoy Valentine’s Day without all the trash that comes with it, by sending out E-Cards, using newspapers or magazines as wrapping paper, avoid balloons at all costs, buy potted plants or buy eco-friendly gifts such as reusable mugs, bottles, straws or even bamboo toothbrushes to brighten up your loved one’s smile. You can also support an initiative or event that brings light and love in this world.
One such event is the Green Valentine by TonyWild.
The Green Valentine is a charity event run by TonyWild to share people’s love for wildlife and nature. In the process, the charity is aimed at raising funds for the various programs that are run by TonyWild to create awareness of wildlife conservation and support restoration activities across the county.
Green Valentine is in its first year and in 2020 it will be dedicated to launching the Wildlife is life Campaign. The Wildlife is Life Campaign aims at sharing with Kenyans and the entire world that wildlife begins right from our doorsteps, and we need to embrace the culture of wildlife conservation from our homes to the protected areas.
Steve Irwin
If we can teach people about wildlife, they will be touched. Share my wildlife with me. Because humans want to save things that they love.
From the ants that pester you at home to the bee that you duck from or sometimes hit when you come across it and even the earthworm which graces your garden. More often and rarely noticed are the birds which will melodiously feel the morning atmosphere even in urban areas. If you pass a day without noticing a bird then there is a problem. A big one for that matter. All life is important and has a role to play on the only planet we call home. There is no planet B.

The campaign, Wildlife is Life will run for the next four years, with more emphasis on children and young adults. The campaign will engage the online audience with conservation images taken by the TonyWild team, using the following slogans: #WildlifeIsLife, #WildlifeIsCool #WildlifeIsEverywhere, and a special one dedicate for the month of love, #WildifeIsLove.
